LEARNING OUTCOME 5-6

Using MLA format is important because it keeps everything clean and easy to follow, not just for me as the writer, but for anyone reading my work too. It makes it clear where I got my information from and shows that I’m giving credit to the original authors instead of just taking their ideas. Plus, it helps keep my paper looking professional and organized, which is honestly a big part of making a good impression. Following MLA also makes sure I’m not accidentally plagiarizing without realizing it. It’s really just about being respectful to the people whose work I’m building off of and making my own writing stronger and easier to trust.

Body/Barclay paragraph from Essay #3

These are two examples of me using the MLA citation. For these two, I used the author’s last name and the page number inside parentheses to show exactly where I got the information from. It made my writing feel a lot cleaner and more organized because the reader didn’t have to guess where the quote came from. It also made it way easier for me to keep track of my sources while I was writing. Honestly, it helped my essay flow better too because I wasn’t stopping the reader with long explanations the quick in-text citation said everything it needed to. It just made everything look more professional without making it feel overcomplicated

Work cited page from Essay #3

My Works Cited page for this essay lists all the sources I used in alphabetical order by the author’s last name. The Works Cited page is right at the end of my essay, with the MLA formatting and page number set at the top as it should be. Using the correct formatting helps the reader easily find the sources I used, especially if they want to dive deeper into the topic after reading my essay. Each entry includes the author’s last name, the title of their work, the publisher, the date it was published, and the link if there’s one available. It all just keeps things neat and organized.

Sentence level errors

Fixing sentence level errors has always felt somewhat manageable for me because I tend to focus on making sure the sentence sounds clear and makes sense. I aim to use specific words, but word choice has always been a bit of a struggle for me at times. There are times I just flowing through my writing so I do not use any creative words but that makes it so that when I revise, I look for stronger words to sharpen up the sentence. Another mistake I make often is writing long sentences, especially when I’m trying to get all my thoughts down at once. I’ve learned in class that slowing down, reading my work out loud to myself, and being mindful of punctuation can help catch those little mistakes that make a big difference. Some of the class discussions have really helped me realize the importance of being intentional with every word, rather than just writing the first thing that comes to mind. Paying attention to details like citations, punctuation, and word choice has helped me improve my writing, making it feel cleaner and more professional.
